The Problem With Frozen Pipes

Frozen Pipes Can Be a Threat To Your Plumbing Setup

The last thing that you want to deal with is frozen pipes. The problems involve more than your property not getting the required water. You may also experience concerns where the pipes will not work right and cause significant damages.

A frozen pipe is when the materials around the pipe become solid. The condition develops when the weather is very cold outside. The issue can cause a pipe to stop working correctly.

The pipe will not allow water to move through as well as it should. As a result, the pipe is at an elevated risk of bursting or otherwise causing flooding among other concerns in your home.

Why Would a Pipe Freeze?

There are many reasons why a pipe at your home might freeze:

  • The weather conditions in your area are too cold. These include conditions where conditions go below freezing.
  • You have water pipes around the exterior walls of your home. These pipes hold a greater risk of freezing.
  • You may also have more pipes around the attic or basement at your property. Such pipes are susceptible to damage due to those area not getting as much heat as other spaces.

How Can You Tell the Pipes At Your Property Are Frozen?

It does not take much to notice when your pipes are frozen:

  • You will notice some unusual smells coming out of the faucet or drain.
  • You’re not getting enough water coming out of your pipes.
  • The outside parts of your pipes are developing frost. The concern is more likely to occur on pipes that are exposed or do not have the proper insulating materials all around.
  • The water is not at the right temperature.
  • In other cases, you might experience problems where the water temperature is hard to adjust. You might draw more water than necessary to get the space warm.

What Can Be Done To Fix the Issue?

Frozen pipes don’t have to be a threat to your property for long. Many things can be done to help you with fixing such a problem at your property..

Here are a Few Remedies:

  • Salt can move around frozen drains to correct the space.
  • Hot towels and applications should go around the pipes. The towels must be added evenly without creating a shock that might cause damages to the pipes.
  • Heat tape can also help prevent the area from wearing out or cracking.
  • Keeping the faucets on for a small bit may also help. The effort produced by the faucets will keep water moving gently without risking the space becoming solid or otherwise hard to maintain.
